ESAMI-trapca Pre-requisite Course

Overview

The Academic Courses in ESAMI-trapca focus on the following three key important areas of international trade: International Trade Policy, International Trade Law and International Trade Facilitation. The ESAMI-trapca Academic Courses that are offered in both English and French Language, firstly lead to an award of a Post-Graduate Diploma in International Trade Policy and Trade Law, Advanced Level (PGDA) and finally to a prestigious, one of the kind, Master of Science Degree  in  International  Trade Policy and Trade  Law (MSc), that is accredited by Lund University of Sweden.

Minimum Admission Requirements

In order to be admitted into the ESAMI-trapca academic programmes, at the minimum the applicant must:

  • Hold a first degree in Economics, Law, Social Sciences or any other relevant field from a recognised university or academic institution;
  • Before admission into Advanced programmes students must first enroll and pass pre-requisite courses (see overview below on pre-requisite courses);
  • Show high motivation to pursue a career in international trade albeit subject to requisite consideration or have work experience from a trade or development-related area in government, the wider public sector, private sector or non- governmental/civil society organization;
  • Have a proven command of the language (either English or French) in which the programme or course is advertised and offered. 

The Courses

In fulfillment of its mandate in the area of trade policy, and to facilitate successful completion of participants in its specialized multidisciplinary advanced academic courses, ESAMI-trapca requires the participants to first successfully complete it TRP 400 Pre-Requisite Courses and then get admitted into the advanced academic courses that lead to the prestigious awards of PGDA and MSc highlighted above.

About ESAMI-trapca Advanced Pre-requisite Courses

The Advanced Pre-requisite Courses, which are also known as TRP 400, are offered through the ESAMI-trapca e-learning platform over the duration of six weeks covering three key foundational modules, namely: Introduction to International Trade Law, Economics of International Trade and lastly, Trade Data Retrieval and Analysis.

The first two weeks are dedicated to the module on Introduction to International Trade Law, followed by another set of two weeks focusing on Economics of International Trade and finishing with a two weeks session on Introductory Aspects of Quantitative Trade Policy Analysis. At the end of each module, participants take online examinations and those that successfully complete the assessments become eligible for admission into the Advanced Academic Courses (highlighted below) that lead to the PGDA and MSc Awards. In addition to attaining eligibility for admission into the Advanced Courses, upon completion of these three modules participants acquire critical skills and knowledge in the area of trade policy that enhance their ability to appreciate and articulate trade policy issues as attested by sample feedback from Alumni.

Upon successful completion of the TRP 400 Pre-requisite course, participants are required to apply for admission into advanced courses through the ESAMI-trapca application portal, whose tab is accessible of the top right-side of the ESAMI-trapca website.

As you apply make sure you have gathered together a copy of your first degree, its results transcripts and your brief CV and turned them into PDF to be uploaded on the application tab as a single file.

Limited Sponsorship

ESAMI-trapca with funding from the Swedish Government through Sida provides limited number of scholarships for the Academic Courses to applicants from African Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Low Income Countries (LICs) as per the DAC List of LDCs and LICs. These scholarships are mainly partial, covering either one or a combination of at least two of any of the following components: tuition, accommodation and travel to Arusha, Tanzania.
