Course Justification and Objectives

The objective of this module is to adequately expose and orient the student to the core legal considerations involved in international trade law. At the end of the course, the student will be expected to understand the origin, challenges and evolution of international law, appreciate the efforts and attempts to regulate international trade as well as the impediments thereto, comprehend the regulation of international trade under the ambit of global, regional and bilateral trade treaties, critically understand the workings of the trade dispute settlement system; grasp the legal principles underpinning international trade as advanced by relevant jurisprudence especially that of the dispute settlement system of the WTO.
