The course looks at the ever-increasing legal and policy issues surrounding the linkages between trade, environment, human rights and labour issues. The course focuses on international and national institutions as well as legal and policy processes relating to the governance of trade as they increasingly relate to the environment, human rights and labour issues. A basic question to be addressed is that of how global, regional and national trade institutions, laws and policies impose constraints upon, and present opportunities for the promotion of sustainable development, environmental management and conservation, human rights norms and labour standards.
